Research of the Chair of Pathological Anatomy
Academic focus and teaching innovation
Ave Minajeva is a leading developer and implementer of Team-Based Learning (TBL) in medical education. She has played a key role in introducing and advancing TBL methodology within her department, which is committed to the development of science-based teaching practices. The first results of her innovative TBL adaptations are currently being prepared for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
Research and collaboration
Ave Minajeva actively seeks deeper scientific collaboration in the development and investigation of educational methodologies.
Her research interests extend into histopathology and hormonal regulation, with a current project conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Clinical Medicine and Celvia CC AS. This research focuses on the factors influencing human receptivity, including changes in histological diagnostic criteria in hormone-induced endometrium.
One of Ave Minajeva’s research directions involves the development and application of histological analysis and machine learning in clinical diagnostics. Under the leadership of Georgi Džaparidze, the team has developed Pathadin, an open-source software platform. The repository includes guidelines and examples that support understanding the fundamentals of computer-based pathohistological diagnostics and enable the creation of new models for quantifying microenvironmental changes in various tissues.
Main grants
In recent years as a reasearcher in study of brain tumors (Ave Minajeva) in the grant IUT2-4 Novel diagnostic markers of nervous system diseases and factors predicting treatment outcome (Toomas Asser, University of Tartu, Institute of Clinical Medicine).
Current collaborations
Department of Pathological aAnatomy is introducing digital pathology in Estonia both in clinical diagnostics and in education.
In Estonia – East Tallinn Central Hospital, West Tallinn Central Hospital, Tartu University Hospital, Estonian Forensic Science Institute
Internationally – Riga Stradiņš University
